Direct impact on local community

At Nu Group we understand that the whole point of a Sustainable Environmental Programme is to have a positive effect on local communities and the environment. Not only do Nu Group understand that we need to adapt the processes and ways we work to make a positive change. Where possible we take direct action to develop outreach opportunities to impact positively on local communities.

In 2023, we partnered with “Be On Hand” an employee corporate volunteering organisation, as part of our commitment to enhancing our corporate social responsibility efforts. Through this collaboration, we encourage our employees to participate in voluntary activities that directly benefit the local community.

Through this collaboration, we encourage our employees to participate in voluntary activities that directly benefit the local community. These initiatives include blood donation, donating to food, pet, clothing banks, providing one-to-one support through shop drops, phone calls, mentoring and companionship, among other impactful actions. Our collaboration with “Be On Hand” underscores our dedication to making a meaningful and positive contribution to the communities where we operate.

Our direct impact

As part of our collaboration with On Hand for corporate volunteering, our initiatives not only engage our team in meaningful community service but also have a direct positive impact on the environment. For each new team member that joins our workforce and for every voluntary action undertaken or pledged, our partner commits to planting trees on our behalf as a tangible way to contribute to environmental sustainability.

On Hands tree planting partner is able to achieve an 80-85% successful survival rate. This is dependent on a number of factors including severe weather conditions such as flooding and hurricanes caused by climate change.

Our mangrove locations currently see an 80% success rate and after 3-5 years the mangroves start to produce their own propagules (baby mangrove trees) resulting in a proliferation of natural regeneration. The growth rate of a Mangrove is 25 years. There is little data around their life cycle but it is thought that they live for over 100 years.

Thanks to the proactive efforts of our teams, we have successfully contributed to the planting of 1272 trees.
