Aim
Introduce a litter picking service for external road side areas surrounding the curtilage of one of our serviced venues.
Statement
Following several publicly ticketed food and drink events it has been highlighted that there is a high level of littering on the highway which can be attributed to the event.
Detail
On receiving the request for the roads around the venue to be Litter Picked on certain events during the year, Nu Kleen revisited the original advice on Litter Picking on the highway.
Researching the current position in relation to this activity information was sought from authorities such as the HSE, ROSPA, IOSH, Tower Hamlets Council, Highways authority, The Mayor London’s Office, The Society for the Protection of Rural England, Keep Britain Tidy and several other private consultants and companies and other London Boroughs.
The information gathered was then measured against the specific circumstances of the request for the venue. The areas in the scope of work were walked and established. A detailed Risk Assessment and Method Statement was developed, checked and adopted.
Our staffing co-ordinator invited several of our existing staff to attend a training session and they were successfully inducted in the safe way of working for curb site litter picking.
Following the deployment of the litter picking service which demonstrated a huge improvement to the condition to the immediate surroundings of Tobacco Dock and reduction in adverse comments received from the local residents. This service has now contributed to many successful events.
